A resident of the 100 block of Ellendale Road reported May 12 that someone stole a 12-inch mitre saw valued at $600 and three hand sanders valued at a total of $120 from two vans parked in his driveway. Lauer, 46, of 1791 Winthrop Road, Highland Park, was cited about 11 p. m. May 12 with driving under the influence after police said he drove around two marked squad cars and a fire department SUV that were running flashing emergency lights while... Ioan Varcag, 20, of 3640 Sayre, Chicago, was arrested and cited at 9:30 p. m. May 8 with retail theft after police said he stole baseball caps from Sports Authority, 120 S. Waukegan Road. Police said Lauer smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and failed field sobriety tests. A June 19 court date was set.
