MILWAUKEE — Students and staff at Milwaukee Public Schools’ Rufus King International School were greeted by the beat of drums to celebrate victory on Tuesday, May 15th. Not only to be number one in the state of Wisconsin, number one in Milwaukee, but also be recognized nationally for the great work that these young people and teachers do everyday,” Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Gregory Thornton said. In the latest U. S. News and World Report of “Best High Schools,” Rufus King was ranked number one in the state and 130th in the U. S. “We are proud of what we offer here as public education. “College acceptances are one way of reassuring all of the work we’ve accomplished but this was kind of like the cherry on top after all of the hard work,” says Rufus King senior Alexander Sanchez. After a year with many highs and lows, those at Rufus King are thrilled close the 2011-2012 school year on top. There are some very bright underclassmen and really some of the best teachers I’ve ever had here,” Rufus King senior Camille Crossot said. That’s credit to you as students and your families and what you value in your education,” Rufus King teacher John Dupies said. Part of the reason Rufus King was selected is because of the large number of students taking college-level courses. Rufus King was not the only MPS school recognized. Now, all of Rufus Kings’ graduating seniors are hoping the underclassmen can carry the torch. Milwaukee School of Languages ranked seventh in the state.
